Türkiye’s ambitious National Aircraft Carrier project, designed to operate as a “floating airport,” is progressing steadily. The vessel, planned to be 285 meters long and 72 meters wide, will be able to travel from Istanbul to New York without refueling. Equipped to handle 50 manned and unmanned aircraft, the ship’s critical flight deck is complete, according to Design Project Office Director, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hakan Uçar. Working with BAYKAR and TUSAŞ, the project aims for over 80% locally sourced systems, including a fuel-efficient bulbous bow and a silent propeller design to enhance stealth. The 60,000-ton carrier will expand Türkiye’s strategic naval reach.
