Republican candidate Donald Trump has won the U.S. presidential election, securing 277 electoral votes according to unofficial results, surpassing the 270 required for victory. Trump claimed key swing states, including Pennsylvania, Georgia, and Wisconsin, defeating Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, who received 224 electoral votes.
The Republicans have also gained a majority in the Senate, securing 52 seats, reversing the Democrats’ previous control. In the House of Representatives, Republicans currently lead with 198 seats to the Democrats’ 180, though final counts may take days.
With 51% of the popular vote, Trump has been elected as the 47th president and is set to be inaugurated on January 20.
