European Political Community Summit kicks off in Budapest

The 5th European Political Community Summit has opened in Budapest, Hungary, gathering heads of state and government from 47 countries, including President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Held at Puskas Arena Stadium, the summit includes EU member states, Western Balkan nations, EFTA countries, the UK, Türkiye, and leaders from Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Georgia.

A key focus is the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also in attendance. EU representatives, including Charles Michel, Ursula von der Leyen, and Josep Borrell, join NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at the summit. Events include a plenary session featuring President Erdoğan’s address, roundtable discussions, and bilateral meetings among leaders.

NATO Leaders Approve 5% Defense Spending Goal

At the NATO Summit in The Hague, Netherlands, allied leaders approved a final declaration pledging to allocate 5% of GDP to defense by 2035. The declaration reaffirmed commitment to NATO’s collective defense and included 3.5% for core military spending and 1.5% for infrastructure, civil preparedness, and resilience. Aid to Ukraine will count toward these figures.

The next summit will be hosted by Türkiye in 2026.
