The 4th High-Level Global Ministerial Conference on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) was held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, uniting health leaders and experts worldwide to address the growing threat of antibiotic resistance. Discussions focused on creating a unified roadmap to combat “silent epidemic,” which claims 1.3 million lives annually.
Saudi Health Minister Fahd bin Abdul Rahman Al-Jalajel emphasized the urgency of the issue, stating, “The Kingdom’s hosting of this conference is a clear statement of our commitment to our society and the world in confronting this global challenge. If we do not act quickly, we will face a world where antibiotics that save millions of lives will no longer be effective. We owe it to future generations to protect modern medicine.”
Experts warned that without action, antimicrobial resistance could result in 39 million deaths by 2050. Saudi Arabia plans to launch three innovative initiatives to strengthen global efforts against AMR.
