Police Disperse Tbilisi Protesters

Police intervened to clear Chavchavadze Street in Tbilisi, Georgia, where protesters had blocked traffic with tents since November 17. Clashes erupted during the operation, with some protesters injured and others detained. Tear gas was used to disperse the crowd.

Protesters later moved to Melikishvili Street, leading to renewed tensions with police. A local TV cameraman was detained, and his camera was damaged during the incident. The unrest follows disputes over Georgia’s October 26 parliamentary elections.

Opposition parties and their supporters, who did not accept the election results on Chavchavadze Street, one of the important streets of Tbilisi, closed the road on November 17, set up tents and barricades, and declared a 24-hour “disobedience protest”.
