A ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, brokered with U.S. support, has come into effect at 4:00 AM local time. Announced by U.S. President Joe Biden, the agreement prohibits attacks by both Israel and Hezbollah or other armed groups in Lebanon.
Under the deal, Lebanon’s government will oversee arms sales and disarm unauthorized groups, while deploying security forces along the border. Israel will withdraw its troops beyond the Blue Line within 60 days. The agreement emphasizes adherence to UN Security Council Resolution 1701, with a joint committee established to monitor compliance. The U.S. will facilitate indirect negotiations to finalize land borders between the nations.
