Heavy rains triggered floods and landslides in many states on the north and east coasts In Malaysia, where floods are frequently experienced during the monsoon season, which begins in November and can last until March. It was stated that Kelantan and the neighboring state of Terengganu were the most affected by the floods.
Deputy Prime Minister Ahmed Zahid Hamidi stated that the floods are expected to be worse than the floods in 2014, when around 250,000 people were forced to leave their homes and 21 people lost their lives.
