7.3 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Vanuatu, One Dead

A powerful 7.3 magnitude earthquake struck Port Vila, the capital of Vanuatu in the Pacific, killing one person and causing significant damage. The US Geological Survey (USGS) reported the quake occurred at a depth of 57.1 kilometers at 12:47 local time.

Authorities confirmed damage to several buildings and vehicles, including a structure housing foreign missions such as the US, UK, French, and New Zealand embassies. Landslides were reported, temporarily closing roads near the international shipping terminal.

While a tsunami warning was issued, it was lifted shortly after. The full extent of damage across the capital remains unclear.
