Death Toll from Cyclone Chido Rises to 45 in Mozambique

The Mozambique National Institute for Disaster Risk Management and Reduction (INGD) reported that 11 more people lost their lives in Cyclone Chido, which hit Mozambique on Sunday, bringing the total death toll to 45. It was also noted that a total of approximately 500 people were injured, 23,931 homes were destroyed, and there was extensive damage to infrastructure.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) announced that they will allocate $4 million for their work in the country and the aid organization World Vision Mozambique said that $1.2 million worth of aid will be provided to 75,000 affected people, primarily children.

Thirteen people in neighbouring Malawi and 22 people in France’s Mayotte Island have been killed due to the cyclone so far.
