OneWeb announces successful launch of 36 satellites

Russia launched Soyuz-2.1B carrier rocket from Baikonur Cosmodrome on Monday, delivering 36 satellites from the UK-based OneWeb satellite company, Russian Federal Space Agency (Roscosmos) stated. The launch brings OneWeb’s total in-orbit constellation to 394 satellites. “This represents over 60 percent of OneWeb’s planned 648 LEO satellite fleet that will deliver high-speed, low-latency global connectivity.” OneWeb stated on its website. The company expects to provide low-latency, high-speed connectivity services to telecommunications providers, aviation and maritime markets, ISPs and governments worldwide.

The project is carried out by Glavkosmos (part of Roscosmos), Arianespace, and Starsem.
