Türkiye-Albania Friendship Hospital Sets New Milestones

The Türkiye-Albania Friendship Hospital in Fier, serving over 500,000 people, continues to achieve significant milestones in Albania’s healthcare system. Recently, the first emergency thrombectomy procedure was successfully performed in the country, as announced by Albanian Health Minister Albana Koçiu. The operation, conducted by a Turkish-Albanian medical team, restored blood flow in a cerebral artery, minimizing neurological damage.

In November 2024, the hospital also performed a dual procedure combining panniculectomy and laparocele correction, a first in Albania. Additionally, advanced cerebral angiography for diagnosing arterial pathologies benefited approximately 80 citizens in September.

Beyond patient care, the hospital plays a key role in medical education. Healthcare interns receive significant support, with salaries during internships reaching 80% of physicians’ pay. The hospital also introduced Albania’s first independent management system, allowing autonomous decision-making for enhanced service delivery.

Built in just 68 days in 2021 with Turkish support, the 150-bed hospital remains a symbol of international collaboration, combining advanced medical technology and expertise to serve citizens and tourists alike.
