The death toll from the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles County, California, has risen to 6, with 180,000 people in the area having been evacuated.
Over 2,000 structures, many of which were multimillion-dollar homes, were reduced to ashes in the fires, which were rapidly spreading due to strong winds, causing over $60 billion worth of damage, according to estimates.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass rejected criticism that fire hydrants on some streets in the Palisades Fire had run out of water, saying the destruction was not caused solely by water supply and added that the destruction was “so bad” due to “unprecedented winds.”
The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) said arson investigators are actively investigating the cause of the Palisades Fire.
