European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced a new €3.5 billion aid package for Ukraine in March, reaffirming Europe’s commitment to supporting the country. Speaking at a Kiev summit on the third anniversary of the war, she stressed that Russia still seeks Ukraine’s surrender and that strengthening Ukraine’s resistance is crucial.

Von der Leyen also outlined plans to boost Europe’s defense and weapons production, integrate Ukraine’s energy market with the EU, and maintain sanctions on Russia. The aid is part of the EU’s €50 billion Ukraine Facility program launched in 2024.
