Hurricane Garance, which occurred on Reunion Island, an overseas territory of France, triggered severe floods and powerful storms, causing material damage to many buildings and vehicles.
The governor’s office stated that 180,000 households experienced power outages and many people became unavailable to access drinking water.
The storm warning was lowered from the highest level, purple, to red in the later hours.
