A drone was intercepted and destroyed by the US C-RAM air defense system near Erbil International Airport in northern Iraq early this morning.

Explosions were heard around 2:30 a.m., followed by sirens at the nearby US Consulate. Security forces quickly secured the area, increasing measures around the airport.

Authorities have not disclosed the origin or operator of the drone. An investigation is ongoing.
