Children swimming in Türkiye’s Lake Van, the world’s largest soda lake, are experiencing a surprising transformation during summer vacations – their hair turns blonde. Due to the high concentration of soda water and strong sunlight, children who swim frequently in the lake see their hair gradually lighten, especially by the end of summer. Locals and tourists alike are amazed by the phenomenon, which has become a part of the lake’s summer charm.
As one child put it, “We were Ronaldo in the winter, Osimhen in the summer,” referring to their black hair in winter and blonde hair in summer. While some children enjoy the transformation, others like Tarık Ensar Ayseli embrace their new look, saying, “I like my blonde self better.”
