The Russian Defense Ministry said 146 Russian soldiers were returned in exchange for 146 Ukrainian prisoners of war, following talks mediated in Istanbul. Eight Russian civilians from the Kursk region were also released.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the exchange, thanking the UAE for its role. He noted that soldiers, border guards, civilians, and journalist Dmytro Khilyuk, abducted in 2022, were among those freed.
