Helicopter Crashes Fighting France’s Worst Fire Since 1949

A firefighting helicopter crashed into a lake near Rosporden in France’s Finistère region while refilling water to battle wildfires. Authorities said the two crew members escaped unharmed, and a replacement helicopter continued operations.

The crash came as France fights its largest wildfire since 1949, which has killed one person, injured 23, and burned 16,000 hectares. More than 2,100 firefighters and 500 vehicles are deployed, with officials praising crews for risking their lives to protect the public.
