China Marks Victory Day With Massive Military Parade

China celebrated the 80th anniversary of its victory over Japan in World War II with a large-scale military parade in Beijing on September 3. The ceremony opened with an 80-gun salute and featured displays of advanced weapons, including the DF-5C intercontinental nuclear missile, drones, and hypersonic missiles.

More than 20 world leaders attended, among them Russia’s Vladimir Putin, North Korea’s Kim Jong-un, Iran’s Masoud Pezeshkian, and Armenia’s Nikol Pashinyan. Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan represented Türkiye.

President Xi Jinping declared “China is unstoppable,” urging unity under the Communist Party and calling the occasion a “new era” for the country. The joint appearance of Xi, Putin, and Kim marked the first such gathering of Chinese, Russian, and North Korean leaders since 1959.

US President Donald Trump, in a Truth Social post, reminded China of America’s WWII role and told Xi to “give my warmest greetings to Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un.”
