Poland announced the downing of Russian drones that violated its airspace during overnight strikes on Ukraine, marking the first such incident on NATO territory. Prime Minister Donald Tusk said, “All our allies take the situation extremely seriously.”
Debris from four drones was found in eastern and central Poland, including one that crashed onto a house. No casualties were reported. Airports in Warsaw, Modlin, Lublin, and Rzeszow were temporarily closed, with flights diverted.
NATO allies joined patrols, with Dutch, Italian, and US aircraft monitoring Polish skies. Poland’s defense minister cut short a London trip to return as Tusk convened an emergency cabinet meeting.
