Ecuadorian President Survives Armed Attack on Convoy

Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa escaped unharmed after his convoy was attacked with stones and gunfire while attending a water treatment plant opening in Caar province. Environment Minister Ines Manzano said about 500 people were involved in the assault, calling it a “crime against the state.” Five suspects have been detained. The presidency condemned the attack as “unacceptable,” saying the suspects will face attempted murder and terrorism charges. The Indigenous Confederation CONAIE blamed security forces, claiming police carried out a “brutal operation” during Noboa’s visit.
