A powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Mindanao’s Davao Oriental province at a depth of 20 kilometers, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHILVOLCS) reported. A tsunami warning was issued for several coastal regions, and multiple aftershocks between magnitude 2.6 and 4.9 were recorded. The quake, felt across the Philippines and parts of Indonesia, caused panic and property damage. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. urged residents to move to higher ground and said, “Search, rescue, and relief operations are being prepared and will begin as soon as it is safe to do so.”
