The Lewotobi Laki-laki Volcano in Indonesia’s East Nusa Tenggara province erupted early Thursday, sending ash clouds up to 8 kilometers into the sky. Authorities reported that dozens of residents from nearby villages were evacuated as a precaution.
The 1,584-meter volcano, located in the Eastern Flores region, emitted ash for three minutes before settling. Officials have issued a high alert, warning of potential further eruptions. Lewotobi Laki-laki, one of Indonesia’s most active volcanoes, last erupted in August.
