Germany’s Defense Ministry has ended civilian use of 200 military facilities to accommodate growing personnel and operations amid plans to boost defense spending to €108 billion by 2026.
The sites, including parts of Berlin’s Tegel Airport and bases in Bavaria and Bielefeld, will be converted into strategic reserves. The ministry also canceled sales of some properties intended for public housing, signaling a broader shift toward strengthening national defense infrastructure.
