Voting Begins in Egypt’s Parliamentary Elections

Polling has begun in 14 Egyptian cities for the first phase of the House of Representatives elections. Voters are choosing members of the 596-seat parliament, with polls open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. local time over two days.

More than 35 million citizens are eligible to vote in this phase, covering cities such as Giza, Alexandria, Luxor, and Aswan. The second phase will take place on November 24–25. One-quarter of all seats are reserved for women, while 28 members will be appointed by presidential decree.

Analysts view the elections as crucial for shaping Egypt’s political future and the legacy of President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, whose term ends in 2030.
