The death toll from the copper mine collapse in the Kalando area of Lualaba province in the Democratic Republic of Congo has risen to 49, authorities said.
During a visit to the region, the plane carrying Mining Minister Louis Watom Kabamba and his delegation skidded off the runway and caught fire while landing at Kolwezi Airport. All passengers were evacuated quickly, and the minister was unharmed. An investigation into the runway incident is underway.
