A house fire in Saganoseki, Japan’s Oita Prefecture, spread rapidly and burned 49 acres, killing one person and damaging more than 170 buildings. Strong winds fueled the blaze, forcing the evacuation of 170 residents from 110 households.
Oita authorities requested support from Japan’s Self-Defense Forces, which deployed helicopters for firefighting and reconnaissance. Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said the government is coordinating with local officials to provide full assistance. The fire was largely contained after about 20 hours, with cooling operations ongoing
