KIZILELMA Makes Aviation History With First Air-to-Air Missile Hit

Türkiye’s Bayraktar KIZILELMA became the world’s first unmanned combat aircraft to hit a jet-powered aerial target with a beyond-visual-range (BVR) missile. In a landmark test over Sinop, KIZILELMA detected a high-speed target using ASELSAN’s MURAD AESA radar and struck it with TÜBİTAK SAGE’s GÖKDOĞAN missile.

The mission also featured formation flying with five F-16s, showcasing future manned-unmanned air combat concepts. A Bayraktar AKINCI UAV recorded the event.

The test marked another milestone for Türkiye: a national radar guiding a national missile fired from a national UCAV. Officials, including Air Force commanders and defense industry leaders, monitored the flight from accompanying F-16s.

With its low radar signature and advanced sensors, KIZILELMA is designed for “seeing without being seen” and achieving air superiority. The UCAV has already proven its precision in earlier air-to-ground tests and now demonstrates full air-to-air capability.
