Russia said it struck the western Ukrainian city of Lviv with a medium-range hypersonic Oreshnik missile during overnight attacks, marking the second known use of the system. The Russian Defense Ministry said the strike targeted Ukrainian military-related production and energy facilities in response to what it called an earlier attack by Kyiv. The Oreshnik missile, first used in November 2024 against Dnipro, is described by Russian officials as difficult to intercept and capable of carrying a nuclear warhead. Ukrainian authorities have not confirmed the specific target of the Lviv strike.
