Blind Mother Highlights Braille And White Cane Awareness In Türkiye

Çiler Kocaman, a mother of three living in Bilecik, regularly visits the public library to read Braille books despite being blind from birth. “The Braille alphabet makes our lives much easier and is indispensable for us,” Kocaman said, noting that it allows visually impaired people to read, take notes, and use digital screens independently. She also stressed the importance of mobility aids, saying, “Without a white cane, we can’t navigate the roads or reach our destination.” Calling for public awareness, Kocaman said visually impaired people should be addressed directly and asked how they want help, adding, “We are individuals just like everyone else. Don’t be an obstacle, be aware.”
