World Turkic Language Family Day was marked with a special event in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, jointly organized by Türkiye’s Permanent Mission to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and its consulate. Speaking at the event, Türkiye’s OIC envoy Cenk Uraz said Turkic languages are spoken by around 300 million people across a vast region from Anatolia to Central Asia. Turkish Maarif Foundation head Mahmut Mustafa Özdil said December 15 was designated as World Turkic Language Family Day following a UNESCO decision adopted in Samarkand in 2025. He noted that more than 70,000 students worldwide have learned Turkish through the foundation’s schools, describing language education as a bridge for cultural unity. The event drew diplomats, OIC officials, and representatives from Turkic states.
