Families Wait Outside Raqqa Prison After SDF Used Detainees As Human Shields

Families have gathered near Al-Aqtan Prison in Raqqa, northern Syria, waiting for the release of prisoners who were previously used as human shields by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). Local sources said around 3,000 detainees were held at the prison during the standoff as Syrian army operations continued in the area. Relatives have been waiting outside the facility for four days, calling for their loved ones to be freed. The Syrian army said a ceasefire is in effect and continues efforts to secure the prisoners’ release and urge SDF elements to surrender.
