Train drivers in Spain have announced a nationwide strike from February 9–11 following deadly rail accidents that killed 44 people in two days. The drivers’ union SEMAF said the crashes in Adamuz and Gelida marked a turning point in demanding stronger railway safety measures and accountability. SEMAF had previously warned rail infrastructure operator Adif about serious defects on high-speed lines. Transport Minister Oscar Puente said he opposes a general strike and plans to meet unions as efforts continue to reopen disrupted rail routes.
