Fire broke out at a chlorine manufacturing plant located at Passaic in New Jersey, US. Multiple numbers of fire brigades deployed to scene. While the flames grew in a short time and engulfed a large part of the facility, some streets in the region were closed to traffic. Passaic Mayor Hector Carlos Lora urged residents to keep their windows closed and stay at home. Lora also pointed out the flames had spread to other buildings.

“We urge everyone in Passaic to stay safe as firefighters battle a large eight-alarm fire at a chemical plant off of Route 21. If you live nearby, keep your windows closed. Praying for the safety of our first responders on the scene,” New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy said in a post at his social media account.

Although there hasn’t been any loss of life in the fire so far, 1 firefighter was injured by debris and taken to hospital. Passaic Fire Chief Patrick Trentacost Sr. said there was no one at the facility, according to initial reports. About 200 firefighters continue to respond to the fire, while the cause of fire is unknown yet.

US Flag Raised Again at Embassy in Damascus After 12 Year

0

The US flag has been hoisted once more at the US Embassy in Damascus, Syria, for the first time since its closure in 2012.

US Special Representative for Syria Thomas Barrack made his first official visit to Damascus and personally raised the flag during a ceremony attended by Syrian Foreign Minister Assad Hassan Shaybani. The embassy had suspended operations amid the outbreak of civil conflict following anti-government protests.

No official statement has been issued regarding the resumption of embassy operations.

The move follows a surprise meeting earlier this month between US President Donald Trump and Syrian President Ahmed al-Shara in Riyadh, where a decision was made to lift sanctions imposed during the Assad era, signaling a potential shift in Washington-Damascus relations.
