Slovak PM Fico To Challenge EU Gas Ban In Court

Robert Fico said Slovakia will take the European Union’s decision to ban Russian gas imports to the European Court of Justice, calling the move “stupid” and “ideological.” Fico said the plan to end pipeline gas and LNG imports from Russia by 2027 amounts to “the EU’s suicide in the energy sector,” arguing that such measures should require unanimous approval. The regulation was adopted this week by the European Parliament, despite opposition from Slovakia and Hungary, both of which remain heavily dependent on Russian gas.
