A father who lost most of his family in the February 6, 2023 earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş returned to a family cemetery in Adana, southern Türkiye, at 4:17 a.m. to pray for his loved ones. Fatih Karaca survived because he was at work but lost his mother, wife, three children, and mother-in-law in the İslahiye district of Gaziantep.
Three years on, Karaca is still searching for his 13-year-old daughter, whose body was never recovered. “The worst part is being lost. You can’t find her and you can’t tell anyone about your pain,” he said through tears, adding, “I no longer have a child who says ‘Dad, give me pocket money’ when the holidays come.”
