Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Joins Kosovo Government for First Time

Prime Minister Albin Kurti announced his new cabinet in Pristina, Kosovo, following the December 28 general elections. The government was approved in parliament with 66 votes in favor.

Fikrim Damka, leader of the Kosovo Democratic Turkish Party, was appointed Deputy Prime Minister responsible for minorities, becoming the first Turkish politician in Kosovo’s history to hold the position.

Damka said the appointment marks “the highest position ever held by the Turkish community” and pledged to work for minority rights and stronger economic ties.

Kurti’s Self-Determination Movement secured over 51 percent of the vote, winning 57 seats, while 20 seats in the assembly are reserved for minority communities
