Tariq Rahman was sworn in as Prime Minister at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in Dhaka, Bangladesh, after his Bangladesh Nationalist Party won a decisive majority in last week’s parliamentary elections. The ceremony was presided over by President Muhammad Shahabuddin and attended by senior officials and foreign representatives.
The BNP secured 212 of 300 seats, while Jamaat-e-Islami won 68 seats. Rahman replaces the interim administration led by Muhammad Yunus, which took power after former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled the country during the 2024 unrest.
