EU Demands Lebanon Ceasefire in Brussels Address

Speaking from Brussels, Belgium, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen demanded an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon, warning that broader Middle Eastern stability is impossible while the country remains under attack. She highlighted the severe economic toll of the ongoing regional conflict and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, noting that the crisis has inflated Europe’s fossil fuel import bill by over €22 billion. To combat these supply vulnerabilities, von der Leyen urged the European Union to aggressively expand its domestic renewable and nuclear energy infrastructure. During the same briefing, she also praised the recent election of Peter Magyar in Hungary, expressing optimism that the new government will steer the nation back toward European unity.
