Explosion at Power Plant in Romania

Three transformers caught fire following an explosion at the Bucharest West Power Plant in Romania. An explosion occurred in Bucharest, the capital of Romania. Following the explosion at the Bucharest West Power Plant during the night, three transformers on site caught fire. Authorities stated that the fire started in two electrical transformers but quickly spread to the third. The fire resulted in a brief voltage drop in Bucharest’s electricity grid.

Raed Arafat, head of the National Emergency Services, stated that dozens of specialized pieces of equipment were present at the scene. Arafat said, “There is no risk of explosion. Unfortunately, the firefighting equipment is undergoing maintenance. Firefighters will now work without robots. The problem is the burning fuel oil that needs to be brought under control.”

Fire crews managed to bring the flames under control around 1:00 AM local time.
