Japan Wildfires Destroy Over a Thousand Hectares of Land

Severe wildfires that ignited on Wednesday in the Kozuchi and Kirikiri areas of Otsuchi, located in Japan’s Iwate Prefecture, have devastated 1,176 hectares of land. The rapidly spreading flames have rendered at least eight buildings completely unusable, prompting local authorities to issue urgent evacuation warnings for 3,233 residents across 1,541 households. Fortunately, no casualties or serious injuries have been reported as emergency crews continue to combat the extensive disaster. Firefighters from surrounding prefectures are actively battling the blazes on the ground and from the air, heavily supported by the mobilized Japan Self-Defense Forces.
