Massive forest fires have been raging for six days across Japan’s Iwate Prefecture, scorching over 1,600 hectares of land near the town of Otsuchi. The fast-spreading flames have destroyed eight buildings and forced the evacuation of more than 3,200 residents from their homes. Local fire brigades, supported by the Japan Self-Defense Forces, are actively battling the blazes from the air and ground, with only two minor injuries reported so far. In response to the crisis, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has pledged full government cooperation for immediate rescue and long-term reconstruction efforts.
