EU Unveils Sweeping New Sanctions

European Union foreign ministers have reached a broad political agreement to impose new sanctions targeting extremist Israeli settlers in the West Bank and Russian officials responsible for the abduction of Ukrainian children. Speaking in Brussels, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas announced the adoption of 23 new measures against Moscow and confirmed the bloc will officially join a special tribunal prosecuting Russian war crimes. Kallas also revealed that Brussels is preparing broader economic penalties designed to choke off the Kremlin’s revenue streams as the EU establishes its red lines for potential peace negotiations. Beyond the Middle East and Ukraine, the summit focused on fortifying security ties with Western Balkan nations, offering support against disinformation in exchange for strict rule-of-law reforms.
