Malaysia Bans Social Media for Children Under 16

Malaysia has officially implemented a strict new regulation banning children under the age of 16 from using social media platforms. Major tech companies, including Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok, are now required to establish robust age verification systems to protect minors from cyberbullying and harmful online content. Platforms that fail to comply with the new mandate face heavy fines of up to $2.5 million, while existing underage users will be given a one-month grace period to download their data before their accounts are closed. Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil emphasized that tech giants must respect local laws, as Malaysia joins a growing list of nations taking decisive action to ensure digital child safety.
