Ankara Summit to Mark Turning Point for NATO

Turkish National Defense Minister Yaşar Güler announced that the upcoming NATO Summit in Ankara will serve as a critical turning point for the alliance’s strategic future. Speaking at the NATO Defense Ministers Meeting in Brussels, Güler highlighted Türkiye’s rapid progress toward the ambitious five percent defense spending target and its central role in broader Euro-Atlantic security. He also welcomed the recent US-Iran peace agreement, noting that Ankara stands ready to assist with mine clearance operations in the Strait of Hormuz to help stabilize the region. Addressing the gradual reduction of US troops in Europe, Güler pointed out that European allies are appropriately stepping up by increasing their own military investments. Finally, the minister emphasized that Türkiye’s booming domestic defense industry significantly bolsters NATO’s collective deterrence and operational capacity.
