Over two million mourners gathered in Najaf, Iraq, for the funeral of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei following his death in a recent U.S. strike. Accompanied by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and other high-ranking officials, the bodies of Khamenei and four family members were brought to the Shrine of Imam Ali for morning prayers led by prominent scholar Mohammad Taqi al-Hakim. The heavily secured ceremony drew international political and religious figures, including the sons of Iraq’s highest Shiite authority, Ali al-Sistani. A military convoy has since escorted Khamenei’s body to Karbala, where final processions and prayers will continue through the holy shrines of Imam Hussein and Imam Abbas.
