A Ryanair flight from Greece to Germany was forced to make an emergency landing in Thessaloniki after a piece of the engine broke off and shattered a cabin window mid-air. The sudden drop in pressure deployed oxygen masks and nearly sucked a 61-year-old passenger out of the aircraft. Describing the terrifying ordeal, eyewitnesses noted, “One of the passengers had his head and shoulders outside the window. Luckily, he hadn’t unbuckled his seatbelt,” as his wife and others desperately pulled him back to safety.
The Boeing 737-800 safely returned to the airport, where the injured passenger received medical attention and the remaining travelers were transferred to a replacement flight. Aviation authorities have now launched an investigation into the severe engine malfunction.
