Starmer Resigns as UK Prime Minister, Passing Reins to Burnham

Keir Starmer has officially stepped down as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, delivering an emotional farewell speech outside 10 Downing Street before submitting his resignation to King Charles. Declaring that his “work is done,” Starmer reflected on his work transforming the Labour Party and argued he leaves a “stronger and fairer” Britain with an improved economy and reduced healthcare waiting times. He also warned that the country’s “unwavering support for the Ukrainian people” continues to make it a target for adversaries seeking to divide the nation. Offering his full backing to his successor, Andy Burnham, Starmer concluded his premiership by stating, “I go with good grace, I go with a smile…” Buckingham Palace subsequently released a statement confirming that the King had formally accepted his resignation.
