Forest Fire Destroys 2,500 Hectares in France

An ongoing forest fire in France’s Var region has destroyed more than 2,500 hectares of land and forced 400 residents to evacuate their homes. The blaze has impacted several local villages, completely destroying at least six houses and leaving approximately 2,300 households without electricity. Emergency crews are working aggressively to contain the flames, with Fire Department Spokesperson William Vogl noting that “approximately 1,100 firefighters fought the fire throughout the night.” While acknowledging that “the situation is quite difficult” and the blaze is not yet under control, officials expect shifting winds to facilitate daytime firefighting efforts.
