Algeria Wildfires Claim Six Lives

A prolonged heatwave across Algeria has fueled severe wildfires, claiming the lives of six people and reducing more than 1,666 hectares of forest to ashes. Since May, the North African nation has recorded 3,719 blazes, which is more than double the number seen during the same period last year. Civil Protection spokesperson Nassim Bernaoui confirmed that collaborative efforts by emergency teams, the military, and volunteers have successfully brought “85 to 90 percent of the fires under control.” Despite this progress, aggressive firefighting operations remain underway across nine heavily impacted provinces to fully extinguish the flames and prevent further spread.
